User-centric model acquisition and collaboration

GOALS

REPLICATE assembles a world-class team of creative thinkers from research and private sectors to benefit the Creative Industries through:
  • The promotion of a user-centric, mobile-based, 3D acquisition tool to transform real-world scenarios into new forms of creative-assets.
  • The development of geometric and semantic decomposition tools that can guide users through the process of disassembling and reassembling sub-elements of objects.
  • The introduction of new ways of content creation, access and reusability through crowd-sourcing strategy and the implementation of 3 initial Creativity Incubators.
  • The enhancement of creative process in cooperative and co-creative environments through the integration of novel Mixed Reality (MR) user experiences and physical replicates via rapid prototyping.

METHODOLOGY

REPLICATE will use a user-centric design methodology (see Figure) that requires developers and designers to analyse and predict how users are likely to use the REPLICATE outcomes and to test the validity of their assumptions with regard to user behaviour in real-world tests.
The software development methodology is based on the principles of agile software development for iterative and incremental development, where requirements and solutions evolve through collaborations between cross-functional teams.

It enables adaptive planning, evolutionary development & delivery and encourages a rapid and flexible response to change.

The work plan is subdivided into eight Work Packages (WP) that can be grouped into three phases, a Specification phase, a Development phase and an Integration & Validation phase.

STAKEHOLDERS

REPLICATE will benefit many stakeholder groups: citizens will be empowered to generate 3D and be encouraged to solve disambiguation during reconstruction and decomposition.

Creative people without prior 3D expertise will get user-friendly, language- independent, visual/haptic controlled tools to experiment and play with 3D.

Creativity professionals will be able to add richness and semantic-awareness to 3D models by harnessing human experience and state-of-the-art object detection.

Researchers in the humanities will be able to take advantage of the creativity platform, usability and usage outcomes to further their research into co- creativity.

The users and stakeholders targeted by REPLICATE (citizens and the Creative Industries) will interact with the project through our 3 Creativity-Incubators.
